CEREC: Same Day Crown Technology
CEREC is technology that uses CEramic REConstruction to create a dental crown. It stands for Chairside Economical Restoration and Esthetic Ceramics and take advantage of the latest tech like computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing to create dental restorations like crowns, dental veneers, inlays and onlays in a same-day visit.
Dental crowns are like caps that go over teeth to restore and protect teeth that have been damaged due to trauma or decay. They can protect teeth that have had root canal therapy and teeth that have been worn due to age or bruxism. Unlike a cap, a dental crown is created to look like a natural tooth.
To create the restoration with a precision fit, diagnostic tools like digital x-rays and scans are uploaded into a computer with CEREC software, which uses this data to create a tooth restoration that will fit within your mouth and teeth. The prosthesis is created from a block of resin or ceramic with a result that looks and feels like your own natural tooth.
