Prevention is the Best Dental Treatment
We know that prevention is key for keeping children’s teeth healthy. That’s why we focus on working with our young patients to teach them the importance of oral health care and what it means. While you teach your child the importance of brushing and flossing, we back up what you teach with fun ways to reinforce oral hygiene and care. And if any problems should arise, regular dental checkups allow us to find and treat problems early, quite often before pain takes over.
Some common problems that young children have are tooth decay and cavities. Our gentle dentists can fill the cavity before it gets too large and if needed, may offer a special sealant to protect the other teeth. We also provide services to help teeth remain healthy as they develop, including Invisalign clear aligners and orthodontic services, so they can enjoy healthy teeth with a smile they can be proud of.

How We Help Young Patients
When you bring your young child for a dental visit with us, we will use a technique called Tell, Show and Do. This is how it goes:
Tell:
During this step the dentist will explain or tell your child what they will do in the mouth. This helps your child understand they are part of the process and gives them time to ask questions.
Show:
The dentist will then show them what will be done, which may include providing a mirror for the child to see inside their mouth or having a look at the tools the dentist will use.
Do:
Now comes the treatment, which is what we do. The goal at this stage is to help your child remain comfortable and relaxed while the dentist works. Your child will be given instructions that they can raise their hand to stop the treatment, so they know they are in control.
Your Child’s First Dental Visit
The first visit with a young patient is usually a dental checkup to allow them an opportunity to become familiar with the office. The dentist will talk to your child and get to know them, and explain what a dental checkup is. Your child may get a fun talk about brushing and flossing and if you like, you can request a professional teeth polishing so they get a real treatment.
We know that the first dental visit can be stressful for both children and parents, but the following are some tips to help make it easier:
That’s why we believe in bringing children for a checkup before any problems arise. When you use this approach, the child will not associate the dentist with a painful tooth or infection, but instead will learn that the dentist is important to help prevent dental problems.
