Orthodontics at Diggers Rest, Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham

Orthodontics is the standard in care for treating irregularities of teeth, including alignments and malocclusions. It is a specialised branch of dentistry used to diagnose and correct issues such as crooked or crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, bite and jaw problems and issues with dental arches. Our team of skilled professionals at Diggers Rest Dental House are specially trained in orthodontics and understand that the way your teeth look when you smile can have a great impact on how you feel. We can diagnose dental problems and have a number of dental solutions ready to help improve your teeth and smile.

Why Orthodontics?

Orthodontics - Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham - Diggers Rest Dental House

Why Orthodontics?

Orthodontics and straight teeth provide a number of benefits such as the ability to clean in between teeth more easily and overall improved dental health. Straight teeth reduce the risk of injuries due to a deformed bite and can lower the risk of gum disease that can lead to tooth loss. Our goal is to help you and your family improve and maintain your oral health so you can take photos and socialise without worrying about your smile. The following are just some dental problems that orthodontics can help with:
Crowded teeth
Crooked teeth
Gaps in between teeth
Overbite, underbite and crossbite
Jaw joint disorders such as misalignment

Parents often begin orthodontic treatment with their children while young to set them up for a lifetime of oral health. Between ages 11-16 years old, children’s bones are still malleable. Therefore they respond quicker to orthodontic treatment with less discomfort. The results are long-lasting and the sooner treatment begins, the easier it is for both the child and your wallet.

Adults can benefit from orthodontic services, too, as more treatments are available that are both discreet and effective. Today, there is a wide variety of orthodontic solutions to choose from, including clear and ceramic braces or Invisalign clear aligner trays. Each of these solutions provides a way for adults to straighten teeth with a treatment that will not interfere with work or daily life.

Orthodontic Treatments at Diggers Rest Dental House

At Diggers Rest Dental House, we see many patients with a variety of unique dental concerns. We answer the call by offering a wide range of orthodontic treatments that can be used alone or in combination, allowing us to customise treatment plans and help our patients reach their oral health goals. The following are what we offer:

Braces

are the standard, go-to treatment to align crooked and crowded teeth. Today’s braces may be made of stainless steel or porcelain for a more discreet look. Braces are secured with wires, brackets and bands that help control the movement of teeth into an improved position. They remain the standard treatment for teeth alignment for serious malocclusions.

Headgear

may be recommended to use while receiving treatment with braces. This is a system that is attached to the head or face with a strap and is reserved for the treatment of more severe malocclusions.

Lingual Braces

are braces that are placed only on the backside of teeth where others will not be able to see them. This is a preferred choice by adults who desire to receive treatment without others knowing about it. Like traditional braces, these are also secured with wires and bands, and your orthodontist will provide customised instructions for daily care.

Invisalign

is an alternative solution for aligning or straightening teeth and uses a series of clear trays that fit over teeth to move them into place. While this dental solution has become very popular among young adults and teenagers, it is best suited for those with mild to moderate malocclusions.

Palatal Expansion

is used to widen the upper palate of the mouth, which in turn widens the dental arch and allows the teeth to fit together more comfortably. It is ideal for young patients whose bones are still maturing. Adult patients who desire palatal expansion may require surgical separation for a more efficient treatment.

Jaw Surgery

may be used for patients with extreme jaw misalignments to reposition the bones to bring the bite into alignment. This procedure may be required for some patients as the first step in orthodontic treatment.

How does Orthodontics Stay in Place?

Each type of orthodontic treatment has a unique system for staying in place. For example, fixed braces are secured to teeth with adhesives while the bands and wires move teeth into place. Invisalign clear aligner trays are simply put into your mouth and fit snugly over the teeth. They can be removed when you eat and brush your teeth. When you come to us for a customised orthodontic solution, you will receive specific instructions for any steps you need to do at home to ensure your device remains in place.

Caring for Your Orthodontics

Orthodontics - Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham - Diggers Rest Dental House

Caring for Your Orthodontics

Each dental solution will have its own system of care and your dentist will provide you with customised instructions for cleaning your teeth and your device. Overall, daily brushing and flossing will be a key practice in keeping your mouth healthy and your teeth free of decay and bacteria that can cause infection. Clear aligner trays are easy to remove, so you can eat then, brush, and clean the tray before you replace it. Headgear is removable, and braces can be cleaned while you clean your teeth.

Your dentist may recommend a special tool to help you clean your teeth and braces, such as an oral irrigator to clean between your teeth and braces. And, of course, regular dental checkups and professional cleanings should be part of your overall oral health and orthodontic treatment to keep your mouth and teeth fresh and healthy.

Your Orthodontic Outcome

Your Orthodontic Outcome

When your orthodontic treatment is at its final stage, you will have a last dental exam with your dentist. Fixed braces will be removed, and the dentist can do a final exam and assessment of your outcome and oral health. A retainer may be provided after braces and after Invisalign to help teeth stay in place. Retainers are mainly worn overnight and may be required for a few months after treatment is complete.
