Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system designed for patients with mild to moderate malocclusions, otherwise known as abnormal teeth alignment. It is appropriate mainly for adults and teenagers who want their teeth straighter but do not want metal braces. They help with dental concerns such as crooked teeth, overbites, underbites and can close small gaps between teeth. They may also help patients with mildly narrow dental arches.

Invisalign may not be an ideal system if your teeth are very crowded, crooked or too high up into the gum line. They must be worn 20-22 hours each day, so may not be an option for children or someone who is not willing to follow the protocol. Some patients may need one or two teeth removed before wearing Invisalign. In any case, our dentists are highly skilled and can determine if this solution is right for you or your family member.

The Invisalign Process

If you are a candidate for Invisalign, the following is the process you can expect when getting Invisalign Clear Aligner Trays:

You will receive a full dental checkup with x-rays, 3D scans and any other diagnostic tools required to create your customised trays

Your information will be sent to the Invisalign lab, which will then begin creating your individualised treatment plan

When your first set of aligner trays is ready, we will schedule another visit so you can try on your first tray and learn how to use them and care for them

Expect your trays to be uncomfortable at first, because they are created to move your teeth into alignment, which will require them to move from their current position

You will need to wear your tray for 20-22 hours each day, even while sleeping

Remove your trays for eating and clean your teeth and tray before putting them back in

Each tray is worn about two weeks before advancing to the next tray

Total treatment time averages about 13.5 months
