Gum Treatment at Diggers Rest, Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham

Gum Treatment - Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham - Diggers Rest Dental House
Gum treatment is a dental solution that can be used to treat gum disease as well as a range of services that can treat a gummy smile. The health of your gums plays a large part in your smile, while a gummy smile often makes patients feel self-conscious about their smile. Our team at Diggers Rest Dental House offers a variety of gum treatments that can address all patient concerns regarding their gums.

Common Gum Issues

A gummy smile may be due to a number of reasons including small teeth, hypermobility of the upper lip or enlarged gums. If you have gum problems because of infection, we can help with gum treatments that remove infection and heal your gums. The following are some common gum issues that we see:
\
Hypermobility of the lip is when the upper lip raises too high while smiling, resulting in more gums than teeth showing
\
A short upper lip can also expose too much gum when smiling
\
Small or worn teeth can cause an imbalance between gums and teeth
\
Gingival hypertrophy, or enlarged gums may be more prone to problems, but can be treated with certain dental solutions
\

Periodontal disease can damage soft gum tissue, but we have treatments to heal your gums

We realise that each patient is unique and may not fall into any of these categories. For example, if teeth are very crooked and hidden in the gums, removing gum tissue to expose more of your teeth may not improve your smile the way you like. But straightening a tooth or teeth and removing gum tissue can improve both your smile and your oral health.

When you come to Diggers Rest Dental House for gum treatment, we will do a full dental checkup and assessment of your situation to see which treatment suits your situation. And because there may be more than one solution available, we will discuss all options with you so you can choose the treatment that is best for you.

Gum Treatments at Diggers Rest Dental House

Gum Recontouring

is a soft tissue laser treatment used to recontour the shape of your gums. This minimally invasive treatment can be done using only a topical anesthetic, as the laser gently contours the gums with no heat or vibration, meaning you are more comfortable during the procedure. The laser seals the blood vessels during treatment, so you enjoy a quicker recovery.

Porcelain Veneers

might not sound like a gum treatment; however, it is a quick solution to lengthen teeth that are too short. When teeth are short, the gums appear longer, which can result in a gummy smile. If gum recontouring is not an option, then veneers might be your answer. Another benefit of porcelain veneers is that along with lengthening teeth, veneers can adjust their position or fix teeth that are discoloured, leaving you with a fresh and updated smile.

Cosmetic Injectable

is an injectable that is commonly used in cosmetic services, including cosmetic dentistry. When hypermobility of the lip causes a gummy smile, Cosmetic Injectable can relax the muscles so that your upper lip stays relaxed while you smile, covering your gums. Cosmetic Injectable can be used when there are no medical issues linked to your gummy smile, and allow more of your teeth to shine through.

Surgical Gum Treatment

may be used if more gum tissue needs to be removed or if the bone requires recontouring. This procedure is commonly used in regenerative dentistry to treat gum tissue that has been damaged from infection. We provide a local anesthetic so you experience minimal discomfort, and over-the-counter medications will manage pain and swelling. And even thought the word surgery might make you feel uncomfortable, this is a common procedure with minimal downtime, and most patients are able to quickly return to their normal daily activities.

Are there Healthy Benefits with Gum Treatment?

Gum Treatment - Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham - Diggers Rest Dental House

Are there Healthy Benefits with Gum Treatment?

Yes! There are some health benefits that may come with gum treatment. Patients mainly get gum treatment so that more of their natural teeth show when they smile. But for some, gum treatment can remove infection, make your teeth easier to clean and reduce your risk of future dental problems by removing extra places where food debris and bacteria can hide. For others, enlarged gum tissue may be a reflection of another health issue, making it important to treat since your oral health is connected to your overall health. The following are some of the overall benefits of gum treatment at Diggers Rest Dental House:
Show more of your teeth when you smile
Improving the shape of teeth can reduce the risk of tooth damage and wear
Less hidden spaces for food debris and bacteria to hide
Remove infected gums for overall healthier teeth
Improved oral health with easier brushing

After Care for Gum Treatment

There is no one-size-fits all for an appropriate after care routine since each patient will receive individualised instructions for their customised treatment. However, there are some guidelines that most patients can follow to allow for quicker and comfortable healing.
N
Since there is very little pain involved with most treatments, an over-the-counter medication may be recommended to manage any pain and help reduce swelling
N
Consume soft foods and avoid extreme food and beverage temperatures as gums may be sensitive for a few hours after treatment
N
Do not use a straw to drink, because the suction will interfere with blood clotting, which is part of the healing process
N
If you had any type of infection, be sure to take all medications prescribed by your dentist
N
Use a soft toothbrush only
N
Avoid aggressive rinsing of your mouth as that may interfere with healing
