Porcelain Veneers at Diggers Rest, Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Lake and Sydenham
Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic dentistry option that can address or improve the appearance of teeth. They are mainly used for the front teeth that show when you smile and can also be a restorative dental solution to protect and restore a tooth that is chipped, cracked or broken. Cosmetically, they can address the colour or placement of teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. Our team at Diggers Rest Dental House are particularly skilled at customising porcelain veneers to help our patients with a variety of restorative dental solutions.

Dental veneers are thin coverings that are customised to fit over teeth. A veneer will be bonded to the tooth to act as a permanent restoration so that you don’t have to worry about removing it for cleaning or maintenance. Patients can use them to address one tooth or a few teeth and improve the appearance of their smile without the wait for braces or most traditional cosmetic dentistry options.
Porcelain veneers are the preferred material for this type of restoration as it resists staining and is durable. Veneers are customised in our laboratory to match your other teeth in shape and colour, and we can even go a shade or two lighter to brighten the appearance of your smile.

Who Can Get Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are a popular dental treatment, though they may not be the right fit for every situation. For example, if you have many teeth that need attention, there may be a more cost-effective option. If you have gum disease or an infection, we will need to treat that first and then assess whether veneers are suitable afterwards. The following are some situations where porcelain veneers may be appropriate:
One or two mildly crooked teeth that affect the appearance of your smile
Uneven spaces or gaps between teeth
If you are interested in porcelain veneers, the best thing to do is come in for a dental exam and assessment so we can discuss whether they are right for you.

The Process of Porcelain Veneers
When you come to Diggers Rest Dental House for porcelain veneers, we will be able to show you what they may look like before the work even begins. Thanks to Digital Smile Design, or DSD, you can explore different shapes or styles of veneers on screen and then choose the look that suits you. We can also create a composite mockup that you can wear for a while to see how you feel about your new smile. Either way, we will work with you so that you are satisfied with the results and comfortable with your choice.
We use a careful process for porcelain veneers to help ensure we get it right. The following are the steps to getting porcelain veneers:
We will do an initial dental checkup in which we will collect the data we need to begin your treatment plan. This may include x-rays, photos and an oral examination to ensure your teeth are healthy enough for veneers.
If you request it, we can use DSD so you can get an indication of your future smile. Also called treatment planning, this process may take one or two visits.
We will prepare your teeth for the approved veneers. You may receive the composite mockups at this point for a trial run.
This step may last one or two weeks so that you have time to have minor changes made. We want to help ensure that you get the results you are hoping for.
You will receive your final porcelain veneers. They will be placed on your teeth and polished to match the sheen of your other teeth.
The process of getting porcelain veneers may take from two to four weeks in total. We will communicate with you throughout the process to ensure we are working toward the same goals.
Risks and Recovery
Porcelain veneers are a common restorative option, but as with any procedure, there are risks and recovery considerations.
Possible risks include:
- Temporary tooth sensitivity, especially to hot or cold
- Minor gum irritation following placement
- Veneer fracture or chipping if exposed to excessive biting forces
- Veneers may need adjustment or replacement over time
Recovery considerations:
- Many patients resume normal activities immediately after treatment
- Mild sensitivity may last for a few days and usually settles quickly
- Good oral hygiene and avoiding habits like nail biting or teeth grinding can extend the lifespan of veneers
The Durability of Porcelain Veneers
The Durability of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are a durable material option for this cosmetic and restorative dental treatment. Porcelain closely matches the look of natural teeth and is a strong material that can help protect damaged teeth from further damage. They resist staining and are strong enough to function similarly to your natural teeth. With proper, daily oral care, your veneers can last 10–15 years or longer. Some patients have reported them lasting over 20 years.
Care and Maintenance
Once you invest in porcelain veneers, we know you want them to last as long as possible. We recommend the following to help:
Avoid biting on hard objects like pens or ice cubes
Maintain regular dental checkups to ensure there are no issues around your veneers
If your veneers feel different or uncomfortable in any way, call us to schedule a checkup right away
Get professional dental cleanings to keep plaque and calculus away from surrounding teeth
Wear a mouthguard while playing sports
Teeth grinding, or bruxism, can damage veneers. If you suspect that you grind your teeth, talk to your dentist about getting a custom mouthguard to protect your teeth at night. In most cases, your dentist can identify signs of bruxism and recommend steps to help.
